Availability Percentage
(GOAL 85%)
To successfully complete Phase 2, drivers will need to begin to
understand the importance of several key statistics regarding the
performance of your business. Availability Percentage tracks how
often you are in service ready for your next run. Obvious things
like time off at home or relatives reduces this percentage. Less
obvious things like disorganization of paperwork, not taking care
of your truck, or not adjusting to sleeping while under load can
also drive out of service (OOS) time way up. If you are not in
service you can't make money! |
|
Acceptance Percentage
(GOAL 85%)
The Acceptance Percentage tracks when offered a load from dispatch
how often you accept the load. Things that can drive this down
are new drivers thinking they can "wait" for a longer
load or a load going in a different direction. Also when a load
is offered, Dispatch MUST be able to reach you either on your
cell phone or through the satellite in the truck in 5 minutes
or they consider this a rejected load. If this is the first career
where you have been on call you will need to learn how to be
accessible. If you turn a load down you are not guaranteed to
get another offer so this means you just sit!
Some new drivers will make inappropriate business decisions
based on “emotions” not profits. If their last experience
in Chicago was difficult some drivers will turn all Chicago
freight down…that would be bad for business. |

On Time Performance
(GOAL 100%)
One of the main reasons new drivers run late is because they
are not organized. Each trip is different than the last and
will have new challenges to overcome. The teams that improve
after each trip and continue to execute more efficiently will
have the necessary time to address these obstacles and still
be on time.
Drivers that don't push themselves to improve their map reading
and trip organization will always be frantic trying to make up
for lost time.
The expedite segment of transportation is the recognized leader
for time specific deliveries. In fact the customer pays
a premium to all of us for this higher level service. If
drivers are unable/willing to deliver on time they will not
last in this industry. |
First Year Team Earnings Profile
Our
Bronze team needs improvement. Their "in service" percentages
are around 70%. They are accepting less than 80% of their freight.
A bronze team tends to be unorganized and having trouble managing their
things at home while living on the road.
Our Silver team progresses through the training course improving
their understanding of the industry and their business. They understand
the need to be in service and accepting most of the loads that are
offered to them. With the right foundation in place, one day they will
aspire to Gold.
Our Gold team understands that every decision they make affects their
income. A Gold team consistently exceeds normal goals for success.
Often times maintaining 100% in service, 100% acceptance, and 100%
on time for months at a time! They are comfortable on the road and
have either eliminated the responsibilities of a home or are managing
those responsibilities well.
